Books by Country

The United States, United Kingdom, and France consistently rank among the countries with the most editorial coverage, reflecting the weight of the Pulitzer Prize, the Booker Prize, and the Prix Goncourt in our aggregate scoring. However, we actively include sources from all literary traditions to counter English-language bias.

We assign each book the author's nationality at the time of publication. For authors who lived in multiple countries — such as Samuel Beckett (Ireland/France) or Milan Kundera (Czechoslovakia/France) — we use the country most closely associated with the work's literary tradition.

France leads with 15 Nobel laureates, followed by the United States (12), the United Kingdom (11), Germany (8), and Sweden (8). Our country pages highlight Nobel laureates prominently — look for the gold Nobel badge on individual book pages.

Not yet, but regional views are planned. For now, you can browse Latin American literature via Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile; and African literature via Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Egypt.

We currently have ranked books for countries where major editorial sources have given recognition — typically 60–80 countries with substantive coverage. Countries with no ranked books still have dedicated pages that will populate as our data grows. We're adding new data continuously.
